Natural Resources
The Tisdel Law Firm’s offices are located in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado in the heart of historic mining and ranching country. Our lawyers are experienced in a wide variety of natural resource issues, ranging from water, mining, ranching, land use, development, and conservation.
Natural resource law is an expansive area of the law, and encompasses many different legal relationships that concern natural resources and the environment, and the array of local, state, and federal laws and regulations that govern uses of land, air, and water.
The Tisdel Law Firm’s lawyers routinely counsel clients on natural resource matters and their relationships with regulatory bodies and stakeholders. Commencing, obtaining approvals for, executing a project can be a daunting and expensive task and strategic legal counsel may be the difference between a project that obtains regulatory approval and succeeds and one that does neither.
The types of matters The Tisdel Law Firm works with its clients in the natural resources realm include:
Mining.
We have counseled clients in the mining industry on all matters including the purchase of mining property, leases, environmental assessments and approvals, regulatory enforcement actions, extraction and production contracts, and royalty agreements. In that context we have worked on behalf of clients with such agencies as the BLM, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, and the State of Colorado.
Water.
Our water law attorneys have experience in all aspects of Western water law, from filings to multi-party complex litigation. We represent landowners in matters relating to irrigation, diversion, consumption, and sales of valuable water rights.
Conservation Easements.
We are one of the few firms in the state with an ongoing and sophisticated conservation easement practice. We have helped preserve thousands of acres of ranch and mountain land for conservation and assisted our clients in obtaining the significant tax benefits from doing so. We work regularly with land trusts, experts, and stakeholders in securing conservation easements over historic ranch land and scenic properties.
Recreation Industries.
We count among our clients many businesses, both large and small, which provide recreational opportunities and outdoor adventures in the mountains, ice walls, deserts, rivers, and lakes that make living in Colorado such an enjoyable experience. We assist such clients with business formation matters, contracts, insurance, and their crucial relationships with regulatory entities and permitting authorities.
